Obituary for Susie Irby

Susie  Irby
Susie Briggs Irby, born October 11, 1931 in Laurens S.C. to the late Nannie & Jessie Briggs. She was raised in a close and Christian family with eleven other siblings. Her brothers, the late Nathaniel Briggs of Washington D.C., Herron Briggs of Greenville, S.C., William Briggs of Brooklyn, N.Y., Jessie B. Briggs, Roger Briggs, Griffin Briggs, James Briggs all of Jamaica, N.Y. and one surviving brother Belton Briggs of Alabama. Two sisters, the late Anna Bell Daniels and Nancy Wallace.

She married the late George Irby in 1948 with whom she had seven children; Lillian Kenner, the late Willie Irby, Nannie Serrano, Daisy Graves, Carol Garcia, Michael Irby and Bennie Irby all of Jamaica, N.Y.

Susie was a hard worker who loved to dress glamorously. She also loved cooking, bowling and spending time with her family. She was a very sweet woman “who didn’t take no mess from anybody” and was loved by many.

She leaves to mourn eighteen grandchildren, twenty three great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren, three surviving sisters-in-law, Grace Irby, Janelle Briggs, and Viola Briggs.

Susie, who was affectionately known by her children and grandchildren as “Ma”, will be truly missed...
