This situation is unprecedented.  The rules, guidelines, and best practices that we follow are changing frequently.  Please know that the current and future safety of you and our staff is of the utmost importance.  Please contact us directly so we may discuss any of your concerns
and inform you of our current operating restrictions.

Service Charges

Services and Merchandise

To help you understand Funeral Costs we have prepared an outline of the categories that make up a funeral account. There are basically five sections that make up the total funeral account: Professional Service Charges, Casket & Merchandise Selections, Livery Charges, Facilities Charges and Cash Disbursements.

To aid consumers, legislation provides that all funeral homes must provide an itemized price list of all of their related Professional Service Charges as well as casket and merchandise charges. This list must be available at consumers' request without cost or obligation.

We pride ourselves on always being one of the most reasonably priced funeral homes in the area, although many expect our charges to be much higher given the level of professionalism, quality of facilities and ethical standards. We trust that this service will give you one more reason to give the Paul Lane Funeral Home, Inc. serious consideration when seeking a funeral home that is pro-actively working towards providing you the highest standards of services and facilities while offering sensible and affordable solutions.

Call us at 718-659-6260 and one of our funeral directors can give you a detailed quote in as little as 15 minutes. Whatever your budget, we are here to help, answer your questions and offer options when it comes to making final arrangements.

Professional Service Charges

This section contains the fees for our professional services as licensed funeral directors. Included under this heading are fees for Arrangements, or planning and coordinating the funeral with all necessary parties, including the initial conference and request for services. Also we must secure the necessary authorizations and official documents such as death certificates and burial or cremation permits that we are required to file with the Department of Health or other governmental and regulatory agencies. We assist the family with the application for burial benefits when it applies to deceased veterans. We coordinate the method and time of final disposition with the cemetery/crematory of your choice or make transportation arrangements for the shipment or receiving of the deceased to or from a location out of state.

The charge for Supervision will be the fee for the staff needed to conduct the selected services including, but not limited to, at least one licensed funeral director to oversee and direct each part of services including any viewing or visitation, the actual funeral or memorial service and direction of activities at the cemetery/crematory or our required presence at the airport for shipment or receipt of the deceased by an airline.

Other fees might include the charge to transport the deceased from the place of death to the funeral home, embalming if selected by the family (it is not required by law - but may be necessary for practical reasons such as an extended viewing and service), the operation of us dressing the deceased and performing any requested cosmetology or hairdressing.

Refrigeration of the deceased may be necessary for services that do not include embalming but require extra time between the time of death and actual services, such as time needed to allow relatives to travel.

Casket & Merchandise Selections

This section is specific to the casket that a family selects. All of our caskets and merchandise is priced separately - meaning the price you see for the casket is for the casket itself with no other items included. Any additional merchandise you select other than the casket will also be added to the final bill.

Some of the other types of merchandise you might find in this section of the funeral account are: Burial Vaults, Cremation Urns, Guest Register Books, Metal Casket Name Plates, Plastic Prayer Cards & Bookmarks, DVD Video Tributes and Programs/Obituaries. We have recently expanded our offering of custom printed memorial items and can now customize almost anything by utilizing advanced desktop publishing software from Adobe Systems and a state of the are digital imaging and printing system. Our graduated fold programs with insert photo collages are not just obituaries, they become precious keepsakes.

Again, each product or service used is itemized based on your selection and a total is itemized under the "Casket & Merchandise Selections." As always, you are free to purchase or acquire these items from any other funeral home or other source, we offer them in one place for your convenience. such as adding that favorite aunt's name that was mistakenly left off the last draft of the program on Saturday night or printing additional programs to send out with your custom acknowledgement (Thank you) cards for people who couldn't attend services in New York.

When selecting a casket for purchase elsewhere be sure to have a firm understanding of the proper size casket needed to accommodate the body of the deceased and be aware of the casket store's refund and return policy ,and what remedy they will offer if the casket arrives damaged or is not the exact style or color combination you ordered. Receiving funeral homes cannot charge any handling or administration fees when a casket is purchased elsewhere.

Livery Charges

This section is specific to the vehicles that are used to transport the deceased and the surviving passengers between locations such as the funeral home, church, cemetery or crematory that a family selects.

The hearse is a specifically designed vehicle for transport of the deceased in a casket or rigid container between locations. The family will select the number of limousines they wish the funeral home to provide based on how many people they will need to transport during a specific aspect of the service.

Limousines are most often used for the day of the burial or cremation for the trip to the cemetery or crematory but are also used for evening wakes and evening funerals if the family chooses limousine service for multiple days.

The distance of the pick up location, destination of the cemetery or crematory and location where the passengers are discharged immediately following services all determine the final price per vehicle used.

Overtime charges do apply for use of the limousines for activities after the conclusion of the services at the cemetery or crematory, such as when a luncheon is served at a restaurant or a church and the family desires the limousine to wait with them while they eat before taking them home.

Facilities Charges

This fee is for the actual use of the funeral home, if any, for visitation, viewing, memorial or funeral services. The fee goes to pay for things such as the heat or air-conditioning and electricity that must be used during services held at our facility. It helps us to keep a clean, modern and comfortable environment for every family we serve. This fee is not charged if these activities occur elsewhere, such as a church.

For services outside of the funeral home there may be a fee charged by the church, not us, for the use of their church building. If so their fee will be listed under the last section Cash Disbursements.

Cash Advances

Cash Advances are as they imply. These are disbursements necessary to execute the selected services. We are allowed to charge and list only what they cost us to secure on your behalf.

Strict legislation ensures that these items are not marked up and only the exact "cost" is included on the funeral account. Typical cash advances might include:
  • Organist Charges
  • Clergy Honorariums
  • Cemetery or Crematory Charges
  • Death Certificates
  • Bridge/Tunnel and Road Tolls
  • Airfare for transport of the deceased
  • Service or Mass Fees due a church where services will be held

  • Cash
  • Bank teller checks
  • Money orders
  • Most major credit cards
